Ryan Reynolds likes his “Green Lantern” costume, and his co-star Blake Lively likes the tension she gets to be a part of as his love interest and rival Carol Ferris. The “Gossip Girl” actress teased that she looks forward to becoming a “villain” during the San Diego Comic-Con “Green Latern” panel, and she thinks the relationship between Hal and Carol will buck Hollywood trends by having her save him on occasion, but she also thinks “Green Lantern” will stand out among superhero films thanks to its settings on Earth and in outer space.

“Yeah, you do get to see outer space — that’s what’s so nice about it,” Lively told MTV News. “You know, in superhero movies it’s either in a specific city on planet Earth or in space, but the fact that you get to go back and forth is something that’s a unique thing that you haven’t seen in many movies.”
As for her character’s relationship with Hal Jordan, Lively also enjoys their onscreen competition.

“She’s [Hal Jordan's] boss,” Lively said. “She’s also a fighter pilot. She’s only second to him; they’re the number two fighter pilots in the world, so she’s also his rival, and so it creates a really interesting dynamic and a cool tension.”

Blake Lively says shooting her role in new movie The Town was “rough.”

The actress catapulted to fame playing Serena van der Woodsen in hit American television series Gossip Girl. The part in the glossy show allowed Blake to wear glamorous clothing and be preened on set, but her role in gritty movie The Town sees a change of direction for the starlet.

Directed by Ben Affleck, the movie is a grubby tale following the adventures of Boston bank robbers. Blake plays Krista, a sex-craving and attention-seeking single mum who works as a drug mule. The actress thinks her fans will be shocked to see her in such a grimy role and admits shooting was a real challenge.

“Every scene I had was, well, I hate to sound dramatic, but cataclysmic. I’m screaming, I’m crying, I’m fighting, I’m on drugs, I’m in the hospital. They were all very, very rough. Rough to perform, rough to watch or to experience,” she told Total Film magazine.

Blake believes pushing herself to play a more gritty character was a good career move and says she is very proud of her performance.

“They were rewarding, because you feel like, ‘Wow, I can do that. I did that,’” added the star.

Ben was quick to praise the talented young actress and believes the future for Blake is very bright. He cheekily added he hopes to take some credit for her success. “I think she’s going to really blow up. I want to look like the smart guy. I didn’t quite discover her, but I want to say I bought the stock when it was $500 a share,” he laughed.

“The Green Lantern” isn’t due out until 2011, but sneak peek pics are already hitting the internet. First we got a glimpse of Ryan Reynolds as the titular character. Now there is a picture of him with “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively, via Just Jared.

Lively plays Carol Ferris, love interest and gal Friday to Hal Jordan, whose alter-ego is the Green Lantern. In the comic series, Ferris ultimately becomes villain Star Sapphire, but there is no word yet as to whether the movie will hint at that.

In other “Green Lantern” news, star Ryan Reynolds was hurt on the set recently. He separated his shoulder while filming a stunt for the movie, but is icing it down and should be fine. “The Green Lantern” also stars Peter Sarsgaard (“Knight and Day”) and Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes”), is scheduled for release next summer.

Karl Lagerfeld has been linked to a guest role on the new season of Gossip Girl.

The show’s stars Blake Lively, Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester are currently filming scenes for the programme in Paris.

Lively, who plays Serena, has now been photographed with Lagerfeld in the French capital, sparking online rumours that the fashion designer will appear in the series.

Glamour reports that the programme’s network The CW has not yet commented on the speculation.

Previous guest stars on the series include Lady GaGa and Tyra Banks.
